This short paper will reveal the 12 tribes of Israel, and the process of their discovery. For this, we will be referencing the Septuagint Brenton translation. Our first clue begins in the book of Job, where Heaven is described as being in the shape of a circle. As stated in Job 22:13-14; (LXX Brenton Translation)
13 And thou has said, What does the Mighty One know? does he judge in the dark?
14 A cloud is his hiding-place, and he shall not be seen; and he passes through the circle of heaven.
Now that we have our circle, we know that we must divide it into 12 pieces, according to the 12 sons of Jacob, and the 12 tribes of Israel, as referenced in Genesis 49:1-28.
Now that we have our zodiacal framework established, lets reference Ezekiel 1 for our next clue.
The most obvious alluding to astrology is the mentioning of the four living creatures as stated in Ezekiel 1:10; (LXX Brenton Translation)
The Four Living Creatures
4 And I looked, and, behold, a sweeping wind came from the north, and a great cloud on it, and there was brightness round about it, and gleaming fire, and in the midst of it as it were the appearance of amber in the midst of the fire, and brightness in it.
5 And in the midst as it were the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; the likeness of a man was upon them.
6 And each one had four faces, and each one had four wings.
7 And their legs were straight; and their feet were winged, and there were sparks, like gleaming brass, and their wings were light.
8 And the hand of a man was under their wings on their four sides.
9 And the faces of them four turned not when they went; they went everyone straight forward.
10 And the likeness of their faces was the face of a man, and the face of a lion on the right of the four; and the face of a calf on the left of the four; and the face of an eagle to the four.
These four living creatures represent the four fixed zodiacal signs Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio. The lion provides the most immediately recognizable correspondence, representing Leo, while the calf naturally symbolizes Taurus. The man represents Aquarius as ‘the water bearer’. The final creature, the eagle, actually represents Scorpio as the sign was represented historically by both a scorpion and eagle because when one is stung by the scorpion, one’s soul flies away like an eagle.
Now that we have identified the four fixed signs of the zodiac, we can establish that we are dealing with a zodiacal framework. This is why one needs to have an astrological background, because the cyphers in the Torah that reveal the 12 tribes use astrological descriptions. The twelve zodiacal signs are further divided into three groups: “convertible,” “fixed,” and “double-bodied.”
The convertible signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. They are called convertible because, when the Sun enters these signs, the season is converted into the nature of the season that follows. Each therefore marks the beginning of a new seasonal condition.
The fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. They are called fixed because, when the Sun enters these signs, the season becomes established in a particular condition and remains relatively stable; hence, they are termed “fixed.”
The double-bodied signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. Their symbolism frequently contains the idea of duality or multiplicity, as seen in Gemini (the Twins), Virgo (the Maiden), Sagittarius (the half-man, half-horse), and Pisces (the two Fishes). They are called double-bodied because, when the Sun enters these signs, the qualities of the season become mixed: the characteristics of the departing season begin to mingle with those of the approaching season.
Having identified the four fixed astrological signs represented by the four living creatures, the next clue to the identity and arrangement of the remaining zodiacal signs is found encoded withing Jacob’s final blessings to his sons, as recorded in Genesis 49:1-27. Each son is addressed individually and associated with distinctive characteristics, symbols, animals, or prophetic imagery – providing the foundation for identifying the twelve sons of Jacob with the twelve signs of the zodiac.
The sons of Israel are presented in a deliberate sequence in Genesis 49:1-28. It is through this ordering that the remaining zodiacal correspondences may be identified, with each son occupying a distinct position within the twelvefold sequence established by Jacob’s final blessings.
As stated in Genesis 49:1-28; (LXX Brenton Translation)
Jacob Blesses His Sons
1 And Jacob called his sons, and said to them,
2 Assemble yourselves, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in the last days. Gather yourselves together, and hear me, sons of Jacob; hear Israel, hear your father.
3 Ruben, thou art my first-born, thou my strength, and the first of my children, hard to be endured, hard and self-willed.
4 Thou wast insolent like water, burst not forth with violence, for thou wentest up to the bed of thy father; then thou defiledst the couch, whereupon thou wentest up.
5 Symeon and Levi, brethren, accomplished the injustice of their cutting off.
6 Let not my soul come into their counsel, and let not mine inward parts contend in their conspiracy, for in their wrath they slew men, and in their passion they houghed a bull.
7 Cursed be their wrath, for it was willful, and their anger, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.
8 Juda, thy brethren have praised thee, and thy hands shall be on the back of thine enemies; thy father’s sons shall do thee reverence.
9 Juda is a lion’s whelp: from the tender plant, my son, thou art gone up, having couched thou liest as a lion, and as a whelp; who shall stir him up?
10 A ruler shall not fail from Juda, nor a prince from his loins, until there come the things stored up for him; and he is the expectation of nations.
11 Binding his foal to the vine, and the foal of his ass to the branch of it, he shall wash his robe in wine, and his garment in the blood of the grape.
12 His eyes shall be more cheering than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.
13 Zabulon shall dwell on the coast, and he shall be by a haven of ships, and shall extend to Sidon.
14 Issachar has desired that which is good; resting between the inheritances.
15 And having seen the resting place that it was good, and the land that it was fertile, he subjected his shoulder to labour, and became a husbandman.
16 Dan shall judge his people, as one tribe too in Israel.
17 And let Dan be a serpent in the way, besetting the path, biting the heel of the horse (and the rider shall fall backward),
18 waiting for the salvation of the Lord.
19 Gad, a plundering troop shall plunder him; but he shall plunder him, pursuing him closely.
20 Aser, his bread shall be fat; and he shall yield dainties to princes.
21 Nephthalim is a spreading stem, bestowing beauty on its fruit.
22 Joseph is a son increased; my dearly loved son is increased; my youngest son, turn to me.
23 Against whom men taking evil counsel reproached him, and the archers pressed hard upon him.
24 But their bow and arrows were mightily consumed, and the sinews of their arms were slackened by the hand of the mighty one of Jacob; thence is he that strengthened Israel from the God of thy father;
25 and my God helped thee, and he blessed thee with the blessing of heaven from above, and the blessing of the earth possessing all things, because of the blessing of the breasts and of the womb,
26 the blessings of thy father and thy mother – it has prevailed above the blessing of the lasting mountains, and beyond the blessings of the everlasting hills; they shall be upon the head of Joseph, and upon the head of the brothers of whom he took the lead.
27 Benjamin, as a ravening wolf, shall eat still in the morning, and at evening he gives food.
28 All these are the twelve sons of Jacob; and their father spoke these words to them, and he blessed them; he blessed each of them according to his blessing.
The most obvious indication of a zodiacal correspondence is found in Judah, who is explicitly identified as a “lion’s whelp”, naturally inviting comparison with Leo, the Lion of the zodiac. Once Judah is identified with Leo, the remaining correspondences may be established by following the sequence of the sons present in Genesis 49. Immediately following Judah is Zabulon, corresponding to Virgo; Issachar to Libra; Dan to Scorpio; Gad to Sagittarius; Aser to Capricorn; Nephthalim to Aquarius; Joseph to Pisces; and Benjamin to Aries. Returning to the beginning of Jacob’s sequence, Ruben therefore corresponds to Taurus, Symeon to Gemini, and Levi to Cancer. The complete cycle consequently follows the order of the twelve zodiacal signs, with Judah and the lion of Leo serving as the principal point of identification from which the remaining correspondences are derived.
The additional blessings pronounced upon the tribes of Israel by Moses in Deuteronomy 33 will further illuminate the distinctive nature of each tribe and provide additional clues concerning their proposed zodiacal correspondences and influences.
Additionally, each tribe corresponds to a gemstone fixed on Aaron’s breastplate, as stated in Exodus 28:15-21; (LXX Brenton Translation)
15 And thou shalt make the oracle of judgment, the work of the embroiderer: in keeping with the ephod, thou shalt make it of gold, and blue and purple, and spun scarlet, and fine linen spun.
16 Thou shalt make it square: it shall be double; of a span the length of it, and of a span the breadth.
17 And thou shalt interweave with it a texture of four rows of stone; there shall be a row of stones, a sardius, a topaz, and emerald, the first row.
18 And the second row, a carbuncle, a sapphire, and a jasper.
19 And the third row, a ligure, an agate, an amethyst:
20 and the fourth row, a chrysolite, and a beryl, and an onyx stone, set round with gold, bound together with gold: let them be according to their row.
21 And let the stones of the names of the children of Israel be twelve according to their names, engravings as of seals: let them be for the twelve tribes each according to the name.
Just as the sons of Israel are presented in a specific sequence, so too are the gemstones of the breastplate. Following this sequential arrangement, Reuben, the firstborn, corresponds to Sardius; Symeon, the second, to Topaz; Levi, the third, to Emerald; and so forth through the remaining sons and gemstones. This correspondence will become particularly important later in our investigation.
Reuben, the firstborn son of Jacob, is associated with Taurus which in traditional astrology is a fixed sign. Fixed signs are traditionally characterized by steadfastness, persistence, and resistance to change – qualities that, when expressed negatively, may manifest as stubbornness and rigidity in one’s beliefs, even violent resistance, rebellion. Reuben’s fixed qualities are further reflected in the words of his blessing, where aspects of his character and disposition appear to correspond with the qualities traditionally attributed to a fixed zodiacal sign. As stated in Genesis 49:3-4; (LXX Brenton Translation)
As stated in Deuteronomy 33:6; (LXX Brenton Translation)
6 Let Ruben live, and not die; and let him be many in number.
Because Symeon is mentioned before Levi, Symeon is associated with Gemini, while Levi is associated with Cancer. Gemini is classified as a double bodied sign in traditional astrology, meaning the weather elements are mixed, changing, which explains why Gemini’s are known to change their minds so much, hence the reputation for having a dual personality. In the Torah, Symeon and Levi are closely linked and described together as “brothers” whose actions are characterized by violence. Following the violation of their sister Dinah, Simeon and Levi acted together in taking severe vengeance upon Shechem, his father, and the men of the city (Genesis 34). Their actions places Jacob and his household in such danger that, as the narrative continues, the “terror of God” came upon the surrounding cities, preventing them from pursuing Jacob and his sons (Genesis 35:5). Astrologically, Gemini rules the arms and produces exceptional and natural fighters, while the zodiacal house placement of Levi with the arrangement of the 12 tribes will elaborate on their wrath. Jacob later recalled their violence upon his deathbed, as stated in Genesis 49:5-7; (LXX Brenton Translation)
While Jacobs’ blessings towards Levi are not favorable, Moses describes Levi as possessing a distinctly zealous and religious character in Deuteronomy 33:8-11. His devotion to God, guardianship of the covenant, instruction in the divine law, and performance of sacred offerings portray a tribe deeply connected with religious service. Within the proposed zodiacal framework, these characteristics may be compared with Cancer, a cardinal water sign, particularly through themes of devotion, protection, guardianship, and preservation of sacred tradition. As stated in Deuteronomy 33:8-11; (LXX Brenton Translation)
8 And to Levi he said, Give to Levi his manifestations, and his truth to the holy man, whom they tempted in the temptation; they reviled him at the water of strife.
9 Who says to his father and mother, I have not seen thee; and he knew not his brethren, and he refused to know his sons: he kept thine oracles, and observed thy covenant.
10 They shall declare thine ordinances to Jacob, and thy law to Israel: they shall place incense in the time of thy wrath continually upon thine altar.
11 Bless, Lord, his strength, and accept the works of his hands; break the loins of his enemies that have risen up against him, and let not them that hate him rise up.
As stated before, Judah corresponds to Leo, the zodiacal sign traditionally ruled by the Sun. Justas the Sun occupies a position of prominence with in the heavens, Leo is traditionally associated with visibility, distinction, leadership, and the desire to command attention. Jacob’s declaration that Judah would receive the praise of his brethren may therefore be interpreted as reflecting characteristically Leonine qualities of prominence, recognition and leadership. As stated in Genesis 49:5-7; (LXX Brenton Translation)
Following Judah, we have Zabulon, associated with Virgo. Very little of Zebulon is recorded in the Torah. The origin of his name is connected with the idea of “dwelling”, as reflected in the account of his birth in Genesis 30:20. In Jacob’s final blessing, Zabulon is portrayed as dwelling by the sea, with his border extending to Sidon (Genesis 49:13), imagery traditionally associated with maritime activity and commerce. Mercury, the planetary ruler of Virgo, is traditionally associated with commerce, trade, merchants, calculation, communication and exchange. As stated in Genesis 49:13; (LXX Brenton Translation)
- Zabulon shall dwell on the coast, and he shall be by a haven of ships, and shall extend to Sidon.
This Mercurial influence provides an intriguing parallel with the maritime and commercial imagery associated with Zabulon in Jacob’s blessing. Moses likewise blesses the tribe of Zabulon alongside the tribe of Issachar, further linking the two tribes, as stated in Deuteronomy 49:18-19; (LXX Brenton Translation)
18 And to Zabulon he said, Rejoice, Zabulon, in thy going out, and Issachar in his tents.
19 They shall utterly destroy the nations, and ye shall call men there, and there offer the sacrifice of righteousness; for the wealth of the sea shall suckle thee, and so shall the marts of them that dwell by the sea-coast.
Once again, another mention of maritime commerce associated with Zabulon.
Issachar, closely associated with Zabulon in the biblical blessings, corresponds to Libra, a cardinal sign belonging to the Air triplicity. Astrologically, Libra has traditionally been associated with balance, judgment, deliberation, and the careful weighing of competing considerations – qualities naturally expressed through the image of the scales. As stated in Genesis 49:5-7; (LXX Brenton Translation)
14 Issachar has desired that which is good; resting between the inheritances.
15 And having seen the resting place that it was good, and the land that it was fertile, he subjected his shoulder to labour, and became a husbandman.
Jacob’s description of Issachar as “resting between the inheritances” provides further proof to his zodiacal correspondence. The imagery of resting “between” two divisions is particularly noteworthy when compared with Libra’s position near the midpoint of the zodiacal sequence. This provides yet another clue that our proposed method of interpretation is correct. Within the arrangement, Issachar occupies the seventh position and corresponds to Libra, the seventh sign of the zodiac, marking the transition into the latter half of the zodiacal cycle.
Moses likewise joins Issachar with Zabulon in his blessing, presenting the two tribes as complementary partners (Deuteronomy 33:18-19). Within the proposed zodiacal framework, Issachar’s role may therefore be compared with the Libran principles of weighing advantage, evaluating circumstances, cooperation, and establishing balance between competing interests.
As stated in Deuteronomy 33:18-19; (LXX Brenton Translation)
18 And to Zabulon he said, Rejoice, Zabulon, in thy going out, and Issachar in his tents.
19 They shall utterly destroy the nations, and ye shall call men there, and there offer the sacrifice of righteousness; for the wealth of the sea shall suckle thee, and so shall the marts of them that dwell by the sea-coast.
Following Issachar we come to Dan, associated with Scorpio, the fixed water sign of the zodiac. . “Let Dan be a serpent in the way” is an obvious astrological correspondence to Scorpio – a venomous creature likewise associated with danger, concealment, and a potentially deadly strike. Once again, the Torah is the greatest astrological book, and when one is verse in the terminology and descriptions of the zodiac, you will find the 12 tribes. Dan comes from the Hebrew word meaning “to judge”, and his mother thus named him because she felt that God had judged her favorably in giving her another son. Jacob’s blessing of Dan reads as stated in Genesis 49:16-18; (LXX Brenton Translation)
16 Dan shall judge his people, as one tribe too in Israel.
17 And let Dan be a serpent in the way, besetting the path, biting the heel of the horse (and the rider shall fall backward),
18 waiting for the salvation of the Lord.
Following Dan we come to Gad, corresponding to Sagittarius. The name Gad itself is associated with “good fortune”, a meaning reflected in the account of his naming in Genesis 30:11. This provides an obvious parallel with Sagittarius, whose planetary ruler, Jupiter, is traditionally regarded as the Greater Benefic and associated with prosperity, abundance, good fortune, and favorable outcomes. Those born under Sagittarius have likewise traditionally been characterized as being very fortunate. As stated in Genesis 49:19; (LXX Brenton Translation)
19 Gad, a plundering troop shall plunder him; but he shall plunder him, pursuing him closely.
Moses blessing of Gad provides one of the most striking descriptions of qualities traditionally associated with Jupiter and Sagittarius. The blessing emphasizes expansion, strength, leadership, and the enlargement of Gad’s territory – themes that closely parallel the expansive and fortunate nature traditionally attributed to Jupiter, the planetary ruler of Sagittarius. As stated in Deuteronomy 33:20-21; (LXX Brenton Translation)
20 And to Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlarges Gad: as a lion he rested, having broken the arm and the ruler.
21 And he saw his first-fruits, that there the land of the princes gathered with the chiefs of the people was divided; the Lord wrought righteousness, and his judgment with Israel.
Following Gad we have Asher, whom corresponds to Capricorn, a cardinal sign belonging to the Earth triplicity. The earth triplicity and its elements will be the next clue here. Asher’s name conveys the sense of being “happy”, “blessed”, or “fortunate”, and the blessings pronounced upon him repeatedly emphasize material abundance, sustenance, and prosperity. These themes provide an intriguing parallel with the earthy and materially oriented qualities traditionally attributed to Capricorn. As stated in Genesis 49:5-7; (LXX Brenton Translation)
20 Aser, his bread shall be fat; and he shall yield dainties to princes.
While Jacobs blessing did not provide much clues to work with, Moses’ blessing will give us the information we are looking for prove our methodology. The imagery becomes particularly striking in Moses’ blessing, where Asher is promised that he shall “dip his foot in oil” and that his “shoe shall be iron and brass” (Deuteronomy 33:24-25). Iron and brass are metals that correspond to earth signs, as precious metals come from the earth! Another astrological correspondence proving the ordering system is correct. Within the proposed zodiacal correspondence, these images of material abundance, durability, and strength may be compared with the enduring and industrious qualities traditionally associated with Capricorn. As stated in Deuteronomy 33:24-25; (LXX Brenton Translation)
24 And to Aser he said, Aser is blessed with children; and he shall be acceptable to his brethren: he shall dip his foot in oil
25 His sandal shall be iron and brass; as thy days, so shall be thy strength.
Following Asher we come to Nephthalim corresponding to Aquarius, a fixed sign belonging to the Air triplicity. His name is associated with the idea of “wrestling” or “struggling”, deriving from the circumstances surrounding his naming in Genesis 30:8. The blessings pronounced upon Nephthalim by both Jacob and Moses are particularly revealing when examined within the proposed zodiacal framework. As an air sign, Aquarius is traditionally associated with intellectual and communicative qualities. Air itself is naturally connected with breath, voice, speech, and the transmission of sound. This symbolism becomes particularly intriguing in Jacob’s blessing of Nephthalim, who is described as “a spreading stem, bestowing beauty on its fruit” in the Brenton LXX (Genesis 49:21). As stated in Genesis 49:21; (LXX Brenton Translation)
21 Nephthalim is a spreading stem, bestowing beauty on its fruit.
While we did not get much astrological correspondences on Jacobs blessing, other translations contain imagery of Nephthali giving “goodly words”, which is a clear sign of the astrological correspondence with Aquarius. As stated in Genesis 49:21; (King James Version)
21 Nephthalim is a spreading stem, bestowing beauty on its fruit.
Moses states, as stated in Deuteronomy 33:23; (LXX Brenton Translation)
23 And to Nephthali he said, Nephthali has the fulness of good things; and let him be filled with blessing from the Lord: he shall inherit the west and the south.
These differing traditions provide an interesting foundation for examining Nephthalim’s proposed association with expression, communication, and the Aquarius fixed air principle.
Following Nephthali we come to Joseph who corresponds to Pisces, another sign traditionally ruled by Jupiter. Like Gad, Joseph is portrayed as overcoming adversity and ultimately prevailing against those who opposed him. Jacob’s blessing of Joseph is particularly abundant, emphasizing divine assistance, fruitfulness, strength, and blessings extending from the heavens above to the depths beneath. These themes provide striking parallels with the expansive, beneficent, and fruitful qualities traditionally attributed to Jupiter.
Joseph occupies the eleventh position in the birth order of Jacob’s twelve sons, followed only by Benjamin, the youngest. However, here Joseph is revealed to be the youngest son because he corresponds to Pisces since Reuben lost his birthright, and Benjamin was awarded the right of first born as he marks the beginning of the zodiac. As stated in Genesis 49:5-7; (LXX Brenton Translation)
22 Joseph is a son increased; my dearly loved son is increased; my youngest son, turn to me.
23 Against whom men taking evil counsel reproached him, and the archers pressed hard upon him.
24 But their bow and arrows were mightily consumed, and the sinews of their arms were slackened by the hand of the mighty one of Jacob; thence is he that strengthened Israel from the God of thy father;
As stated in Deuteronomy 33:13-17; (LXX Brenton Translation)
13 And to Joseph he said, His land is of the blessing of the Lord, of the seasons of sky and dew, and of the deeps of wells below,
14 and of the fruits of the changes of the sun in season, and of the produce of the months,
15 from the top of the ancient mountains, and from the top of the everlasting hills,
16 and of the fullness of the land in season: and let the things pleasing to him that dwelt in the bush come on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of him who was glorified above his brethren.
17 His beauty is as the firstling of his bull, his horns are the horns of a unicorn; with them he shall thrust the nations at once, even from the end of the earth: these are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and these are the thousands of Manasse.
Following Joseph we have Benjamin, corresponding to Aries, the cardinal fire sign traditionally ruled by Mars. His name, Benjamin, is commonly understood to mean “Son of the right hand”. Jacob’s description of Benjamin as a “ravening wolf” provides a striking parallel with the martial qualities traditionally attributed to Mars, the planetary ruler of Aries. The imagery of the wolf – aggressive, predatory, courageous, and prepared for conflict – may therefore be interpreted as reflecting the forceful and warlike characteristics associated with Mars and its zodiacal domicile, Aries. As stated in Deuteronomy 33:13-17; (LXX Brenton Translation)
27 Benjamin, as a ravening wolf, shall eat still in the morning, and at evening he gives food.
Moses’s blessing of Benjamin further reveals characteristics that bear a striking resemblance to those traditionally attributed to Aries. As stated in Deuteronomy 33:12; (LXX Brenton Translation)
- And to Benjamin he said, The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in confidence, and God overshadows him always, and he rested between his shoulders.
Moses’ blessings reveals the supreme self-confidence, fearlessness in the face of danger, intense loyalty, and a tendency toward bold and impulsive action that characteristic associated with Aries. The assurance of divine protection expressed in the blessing particularly complements the characteristic Aries conviction that obstacles are to be confronted directly and overcome through courage and decisive action.
The arrangement of the tribes now becomes clear when examined in light of Numbers 2. With these correspondences established, we can begin to construct a diagram illustrating the position of each tribe and its corresponding zodiacal house. As stated in Numbers 2:3,5,7; (LXX Brenton Translation)
3 And they that encamp first toward the east shall be the order of the camp of Juda with their host, and the prince of the sons of Juda, Naasson the son of Aminadab.
5 And they that encamp next shall be of the tribe of Issachar, and the prince of the sons of Issachar shall be Nathanael the son of Sogar.
7 And they that encamp next shall be of the tribe of Zabulon, and the prince of the sons of Zabulon shall be Eliab the son of Chaelon.
The camps associated with the south include Ruben, Symeon, and even Gad. As stated in Numbers 2:10,12,14; (LXX Brenton Translation)
10 This is the order of the camp of Ruben; their forces shall be toward the south, and the prince of the children of Ruben shall be Elisur the son of Sediur.
12 And they that encamp next to him shall be of the tribe of Symeon, and the prince of the sons of Symeon shall be Salamiel the son of Surisadai.
14 And they that encamp next to them shall be the tribe of Gad; and the prince of the sons of Gad, Elisaph the son of Raguel.
The camps associated with the west include Ephraim and Benjamin. As stated in Numbers 2:18,20,22; (LXX Brenton Translation)
18 The station of the camp of Ephraim shall be westward with their forces, and the head of the children of Ephraim shall be Elisama the son of Emiud.
20 And they that encamp next shall be of the tribe of Manasse, and the prince of the sons of Manasse, Gamaliel the son of Phadassur.
22 And they that encamp next shall be of the tribe of Benjamin, and the prince of the sons of Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gadeoni.
The camps associated with the north include Dan, Aser and Nepthali. As stated in Numbers 2:25,27,29; (LXX Brenton Translation)
25 The order of the camp of Dan shall be northward with their forces; and the prince of the sons of Dan, Achiezer the son of Amisadai.
27 And they that encamp next to him shall be the tribe of Aser; and the prince of the sons of Aser, Phagiel the son of Echran.
29 And they that encamp next shall be of the tribe of Nephthali; and the prince of the children of Nephthali, Achire son Aenan.
Numbers 2 does not contain the original twelve sons in its camp arrangement. Levi is removed from the twelve tribal camps, while Joseph is represented through his sons Ephraim and Manasse, and Levi occupies the central/tabernacle position rather than one of the four directional camps. Now we know that Juda, Issachar, and Zabulon are positioned toward the east, while Ruben, Symeon, and Gad are positioned toward the south. Ephraim and Benjamin are positioned toward the west. Finally, the camp of Dan, together with Aser and Nephthali, is positioned toward the north.
Now we can begin to identify the nations associated with the 12 tribes. As stated in Ecclesiastes 8:5-8; (LXX Brenton Translation)
- Remember the days of old, consider the years for past ages: ask thy father, and he shall relate to thee, thine elders, and they shall tell thee.
- When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the nations according to the number of the angels of God.
Where can we find the number of the angels of God? Genesis 10 provides us with another clue. The LXX Brenton translation counts 15 descendants of Japheth, 30 of Cham, 27 of Shem giving us a total number of 72. 360o, the degrees of a circle, divided by 72 gives us 5o. These 5o are your astrological ‘terms’. Each nation has an angelic ruler/prince over it (Daniel 10:13, 20-21) as in “Prince of Persia”, and “Prince of Greece”.
Now all we have to do is find the nations that correspond with the 12 tribes. Encoded in the Book of Moses, are time related cyphers that correspond to specific nations, revealing their placements within the zodiac. For our first cypher, we will reference the book of Numbers 33, when the children of Israel departed Egypt in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month. This is the encoded messaging in the Book of Moses that reveals the identification of the 12 tribes and their corresponding zodiacal signs. As stated in Numbers 33:1-4; (LXX Brenton Translation)
1 And these are the stages of the children of Israel, as they went out from the land of Egypt with their host by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
2 And Moses wrote their removals and their stages, by the word of the Lord: and these are the stages of their journeying.
3 They departed from Ramesses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the passover the children of Israel went forth with a high hand before all the Egyptians.
4 And the Egyptians buried those that died of them, even all that the Lord smote, every first-born in the land of Egypt; also the Lord executed vengeance on their gods.
Our next clue is the description of the location where Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem which we know is in the land of Canaan, which is Phoenicia. He began to build it in the second month revealing Rubens identification with Canaan/Phoenicia. As stated in 2 Chronicles 3:1-2; (LXX Brenton Translation)
- And Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem in the mount of Amoria, where the Lord appeared to his father David, in the place which David had prepared in the threshing floor of Orna the Jebusite.
- He began to build in the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
Our next identification leads us to Ezekiel 1 where Ezekiel, in the fourth month is located by the river Chobar in the land of the Chaldeans, thusly identifying Babylon with the land associated with Levi. As stated in Ezekiel 1:1-3; (LXX Brenton Translation)
1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, that I was in the midst of the captivity by the river of Chobar; and the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
2 On the fifth day of the month; this was the fifth year of the captivity of king Joakim.
3 And the word of the Lord came to Jezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river of Chobar; and the hand of the Lord was upon me.
Our next identification leads us to Numbers 33, where we read Aaron the priest died in Mount Or, more popularly called ‘Horeb’ in later translations, in the fifth month. Hence Mount Or, associated in modern times with Hazarmaveth, which is located in Yemen. So the land that is associated with Juda is Yemen. As stated in Numbers 33:38-39; (LXX Brenton Translation)
38 And Aaron the priest went up by command of the Lord, and died there in the fortieth year of the departure of the children of Israel from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month.
39 And Aaron was a hundred and twenty-three years old, when he died in mount Or.
Our first identification leads us to Genesis 8, where the ark of Noah is mentioned as being rested in the seventh month on the mountains of Ararat. Hence it is clear that the land identified with the seventh month, that being the tribe of Issachar, is Armenia. As stated in Genesis 8:1-5; (LXX Brenton Translation)
- And God remembered Noe, and all the wild beasts, and all the cattle, and all the birds, and all the reptiles that creep, as many as were with him in the ark, and God brought a wind upon the earth, and the water stayed.
- And the fountains of the deep were closed up, and the flood-gates of heaven, and the rain from heaven was withheld.
3 And the water subsided, and went off the earth, and after an hundred and fifty days the water was diminished, and the ark rested in the seventh month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.
4 And the water continued to decrease until the tenth month.
5 And in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the heads of the mountains were seen.
Our next identification leads us to the book of Zechariah, where Zacharias is in Susan the palace in the ninth month, Susan being located in Persia. Hence the ninth month, which is Gad, is associated with Chaseleu. As stated in Zechariah 7:1; (LXX Brenton Translation)
- The words of Neemias the son of Chelcia. And it came to pass in the month Chaseleu, of the twentieth year, that I was in Susan the palace.
Our next identification leads us to the east country, as stated in Genesis 25:6-9; (LXX Brenton Translation)
6 But to the sons of his concubine Abraam gave gifts, and he sent them away from his son Isaac, while he was yet living, to the east into the country of the east.
But where is the east country? Luckily Numbers 23:7 (LXX Brenton Translation) tells us.
7 And he took a parable, and said, Balac king of Moab sent for me out of Mesopotamia out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and Come, call for a curse for me upon Israel.
Hence now we have all the identifications for the tribal lands associated within the east. Arabia for Juda, Mesopotamia for Zabulon and Armenia for Issachar.
Our next identification leads us to the north, and the lands associated with it. In the Book of Deuteronomy chapter26, it is revealed that Israel abandoned Syria and went into Egypt. As stated in Deuteronomy 26:5; (LXX Brenton Translation)
4 And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hands, and shall set it before the altar of the Lord thy God:
5 and he shall answer and say before the Lord thy God, My father abandoned Syria, and went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a small number, and became there a mighty nation and a great multitude.
Next, we know that the river Euphrates is located in the north as stated in Jeremiah 46:10; (LXX Brenton Translation)
10 And that day shall be to the Lord our God a day of vengeance, to take vengeance on his enemies: and the sword of the Lord shall devour, and be glutted, and be drunken with their blood: for the Lord has a sacrifice from the land of the north at the river Euphrates.
We only have one location to place Syria on the visual diagram of the 12 tribes and their corresponding nations, between Armenia and Persia, in the north of the diagram.
We now have two nations left to identify: Ethiopia and Greece.
We know that the gemstone that corresponds to Ethiopia is topaz, as stated in Job 28:19; (LXX Brenton Translation)
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equaled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
If we turn our attention to the twelve gemstones set with Aaron’s breastplate, as described in Exodus 28, another important twelvefold arrangement emerges. Each stone was engraved with the name of one of the twelve sons of Israel, thereby establishing an explicit relationship between the twelve gemstones and the twelve tribes. As stated in Exodus 28:17-20; (LXX Brenton Translation)
Given that the gemstones are presented in a specific sequential order, it is logical to consider whether their arrangement corresponds to the order of the twelve sons of Israel. Under this interpretation, Sardius, being the first gemstone listed, would correspond to Ruben, the firstborn of Jacob. Topaz, appearing immediately afterward as the second gemstone, would consequently correspond to Symeon, the second-born son, with the remaining gemstones continuing in their respective sequence.
Hence we can now place Ethiopia, which corresponds to Symeon, in the south which also allots to what is stated in Numbers 2:10-12; (LXX Brenton Translation)
10 This is the order of the camp of Ruben; their forces shall be toward the south, and the prince of the children of Ruben shall be Elisur the son of Sediur.
11 His forces that were numbered, were forty-six thousand and five hundred.
12 And they that encamp next to him shall be of the tribe of Symeon, and the prince of the sons of Symeon shall be Salamiel the son of Surisadai.
That leaves us with one tribe identification left, and that is the Philistines with Nephthali. As stated in Isaiah 9:11-12; (LXX Brenton Translation)
11 And God shall dash down them that rise up against him on mount Sion, and shall scatter his enemies;
12 even Syria from the rising of the sun, and the Greeks from the setting of the sun, who devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but still his hand is exalted.
